Sean D. Shimada, Ph.D. is a Biomechanics Expert Witness who completed all his graduate work on the arm and shoulder. Currently, approximately 20% of the work he does is comprised of injuries to the arm and shoulders, and 80% is comprised of injuries to the neck. He has worked on 1000’s of auto accident cases.
Dr. Shimada obtained Bachelor of Science in Biomechanics from the College of Letters & Science, University of California in Davis where he also minored in Psychology. After that he did Master of Science in Exercise Physiology – Biomechanics from the College of Health & Human Services, California State University in Sacramento. Furthermore, he received a Master of Science in Bio-Engineering from School of Engineering and Ph.D. in Biomechanics from School of Health & Rehab Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Shimada’s expertise in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, and rehabilitation allows him to assess the types of trauma various tissues would sustain, determine the types of forces and movements a person would have experienced, and develop a biomechanical model of the accident.
As a Biomechanist and Engineer, Dr. Shimada has worked to determine: The causes of injury an individual may have sustained as a result of an industrial, occupational, or motor vehicle accident; Whether the alleged injuries sustained in an accident were consistent with the magnitude and forces a person would have experienced; The effect of external objects such as head restraints, dashboards, seat belts, or other mass would have on the body; etc.
